Apple and EMI announced on Wednesday that the iTunes store is exclusively selling ringtones from The Beatles. The 30-second tones are from the The Beatles no. 1 hits album called 1, which represent the 27 top Beatles tunes in both the U.S. and U.K. Each individual ringtone is $ 1.29 for iOS device owners.
The catalog of 27 tones ranges from their first U.S. no. 1 in 1964, Love Me Do, to the Fab Four’s final U.S. chart-topper in 1970: The Long and Winding Road. Other songs include A Hard Days Night, Eight Days a Week, Day Tripper, Hey Jude, and my routine favorite for running races due to the tempo, Get Back.
As a huge Beatles fan, I’m excited by the news, but I wish the cost of a half-minute ringtone were cheaper than that of an entire song. This kind of ringtone pricing isn’t new with The Beatles deal, but for me personally, it’s the first time I have even been remotely interested in buying a ringtone.
Oh well, what’s one more purchase of the same Beatles content that’s been around for almost half a century. First for me was the CDs, then the Red and Blue compilations, then the re-remastered collection I bought in Mono two years ago, and the…… OK, like the song of the same name, clearly I need Help!
