Apple iCloud down for some

Apple’s iCloud has gone dark for a small portion of users, leaving them without access to documents and even backup capabilities, according to Apple Insider.

Starting at 12:30 a.m. EDT on Thursday, iCloud services have been inaccessible for roughly 1% of users — a number that could represent millions of iCloud users. According to the Cupertino company’s System Status page, users affected in the shutdown could see trouble with iCloud Documents, Photo Stream, iPhoto Journals, or Backup & Restore. In addition, users might not be able to send or receive any attachments in iMessage. There’s no immediate indication as to when these services will be restored.

Apple has had issues with a few of its services, noting that late Wednesday some users may not have been able to create an AppleID, and 16% of users may have been unable to make purchases through iTunes for a brief period on Thursday morning. The company has yet to release any formal statement about these outages, nor the prolonged issues with iCloud.

AppleInsider says that the outage has a lot of the same features of a larger scale problem that took place in June, in which 20% of all iTunes users couldn’t access the platform for an hour and a half.
