In reading Paul Tough‘s new book, How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character, it struck me that many of the characteristics Tough talks about in raising a successful child are also hallmarks of successful entrepreneurs. Persistance, the ability to fail, constantly asking questions.
So we asked Tough to stop by the studio and record a special edition of our Commutist podcast. In it, we talk about the similarities between successful kids and startup founders, how super busy Silicon Valley execs can be great parents, and what managers with younger direct reports can learn from his research.
