The team at Hortonworks is all about Hadoop software, and now it’s getting into the PowerPoint business, too. Well, not technically, but the company did just release a set of icons that anybody can use to build flow charts and other visual representations of their big data architectures.
Granted, it’s done in the company’s color scheme, but that doesn’t make it any less useful. If you’re hoping a Hadoop newbie is going to grok that Ambari means “monitoring,” Oozie means “scheduling” or Flume means “data ingestion” without needing a formal explanation, little icons suggesting those functions don’t hurt. There are also basic icons for standard data center components such as storage types and networking components.
I’ll be anxiously awaiting the Cloudera, MapR, EMC and Intel distributions of Hadoop iconography.
