New Intel chip and T-Mobile LTE comes to the next HP Chromebook 14

As expected, HP will update its Chromebook 14 laptop with Intel’s new chips but keep the price at a low $ 299. The company announced its Chromebook 14 in multiple colors to be ready for the holiday season and will also include options for integrated LTE service. With the new Intel Haswell chip, performance should see a little boost while battery life will noticeably improve.

HP is keeping the 14-inch HD display from the current model, making this the largest Chromebook available as most others are in the 10 to 12-inch range. I’d like to see a resolution boost from the 1366 x 768 screen of the current HP Chromebook, but at $ 299, I don’t think that will happen.

I do like the option for integrated LTE, however. HP hasn’t said what the additional cost for that will be but says it will provide 200 MB of free monthly service with the Chromebook 14. That’s double the data I get on my Chromebook Pixel although I regularly pay for additional service with Verizon. Chromebook 14 owners can do the same on a month-to-month basis through T-Mobile.

HP says the base $ 299 model will include 16 GB of internal flash storage and 100 GB of free Google Drive space. The new Chromebook 14 also include HDMI, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports and a combination headphone and microphone jack. When available, consumers can choose between Snow White, Ocean Turquoise and Coral Peach colors for their Chromebook 14.
