Kindle Fire owners can now easily access media stored on their home PCs, thanks to the new Plex app for the device. The app also makes it possible to access media libraries shared with other users through the recently-launched MyPlex personal cloud service, which also enables users to access personal media collections on the go.

The Plex dev team has been on a roll in recent months, releasing implementations for iOS and Android as well as Windows PCs. Plex has also seen some significant support from third-party developers, who have built additional clients for mobile platforms as well as connected devices like Samsung’s app-enabled TVs and Blu-ray players.
Being on the Kindle Fire could definitely help Plex to extend its footprint, but its also good news for Amazon: The Kindle Fire seems to be the first serious competitor to Apple’s iPad. Adding easy media sharing options to the device could help to underscore that it’s not just a glorified e-reader, but actually a pretty capable video consumption device as well.
