Roku’s Canada launch imminent

Roku is gearing up to launch in Canada, and it looks like it will initially sell two of its devices through Amazon’s Canadian website, with plans to sell in brick-and-mortar retail stores further down the line. The company wouldn’t comment on specifics, but I’ve heard that a launch up north is just around the corner.

Here are some other details I was able to unearth: Apparently, the plan is to sell the Roku 2 XD model for CA $ 100 Canadian ($ 101 US), with the high-end Roku 2 XS selling for CA $ 120. The two devices will initially just be available on Amazon.ca.

Roku first announced its foray into Canada last November, saying at the time that it would come to the country in early 2012. The company started to sell its boxes in the U.K. and Ireland in January. Roku has been spending a lot of money in recent months on advertising, and it is reportedly trying to raise $ 50 million to finance further international expansion.
