Back in April AT&T announced it was opening up its powerful speech-recognition engine Watson to developers via a speech API.
The API, which would give anyone access to algorithms for recognizing natural language as well as specifying the context in which it is to be interpreted, was hailed as a major addition to the fast-evolving world of voice-powered apps.
Next Tuesday AT&T is officially kicking off the new API with a one-day event at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View. DevLab, as the event is called, is an immersion into the Speech API with the developers and researchers from AT&T who actually designed and built the API. The day is designed to be a high impact, outcome-driven affair, with learning labs, coding workshops and breakout sessions focused on getting you up to speed and writing usable code with API from the very start.
The event also includes immersion into the AT&T Application Resource Optimizer, built to easily make your applications “lean fast and rich.”
Eric Ries, David Weekly (founder of PBWorks), Guy Rosen (CEO of Onavo) and Michael Owens (founder of Notion) will all be in the house, giving talks and inspiration to developers. Speech-driven startups Sphero, Verbble and Sencha will also be present.
The event starts at 8:30 and breaks for cocktails at 5:00.
