Sponsor post: Augmented Reality Event: Innovators Compete for Top Industry Award

ARE Auggies imageThe prophets of Augmented Reality, Bruce Sterling  and  Vernor Vinge, are joining  Will Wright (Legendary game designer of The Sims and Spore), and Jaron Lanier (a computer scientist, composer, virtual reality researcher, and author of You Are Not A Gadget) to judge the Auggies at Augmented Reality Event 2011, Santa Clara, Calif., May 17-18.

“The thing I like best about ARE is personally witnessing things that never show up on the Internet.  There’s a tension in Augmented Reality, between the global scope of the technology and the local character of the teams that produce it.  When you’re in the room with committed, creative people — looking them in the eye, breathing the air they are breathing — that’s what makes it an “event,’” said Sterling.

There will be 107 speakers and 76 augmented reality companies for two days on one stage, and one-of-a-kind activities, such as an ARt Gala, AR Startup Launchpad, and The Auggies Best AR Demo Award.

The competition will bring the brightest minds in the industry together to put on a show to impress the industry’s most iconic judges and inspire the audience packed with AR enthusiasts.

Nominations for live demonstrations at the 2011 Auggies include: Previznet, Georgia Tech, Mobilizy, Whistlebox, Ogmento, Metaio, Vertigore, and Occipital. The competition is still open for nominations until May 10.

Event registration is limited and does sell out. The discount code GIGAOM295 will allow readers of this post to attend both days for the sweet price of $ 295.
