Google defied expectations earlier today when it announced Android 4.4, otherwise known as KitKat. Yes, the Nestle kind. In fact, you might have been so busy digesting this news that you didn’t even notice Google may have leaked the Nexus 5 in its own promotional video — I know I sure didn’t. But a commenter in the Verge Forums noted that, in a promotional video for KitKat, an employee can be spotted holding an unknown Nexus phone.
The video, which shows a group of Google employees photographing the unveiling of the KitKat statue, has since been taken off of YouTube and marked private by Google. But the Verge has obtained a copy of the video, which you can see below.

If you look closely, you’ll see that at 38 seconds in, a Google employee can be seen holding a black Nexus phone. Taylor Wimberly, formerly of Android and Me, uploaded an enhanced image to Google Plus showing a closeup of the device.
The phone appears to feature a matte black finish, which is new for Nexus phones. There’s also a horizontal Nexus logo, like the new Nexus 7 tablet. But the biggest reveal is the LG logo on the back. LG made the successful Nexus 4, and has been rumored to be the manufacturer for the Nexus 5 as well. So a potential LG Nexus 5 spotted on Google grounds seems entirely within the realm of possibility. Whether or not Google meant for anyone to see the phone is another question entirely.
