Yahoo is back on top! Of ComScore’s 50 U.S. web properties, that is.

Yahoo website and its affiliates have the No. 1 spot on ComScore’s list of the Top U.S. Web Properties for July 2013 for the first time the search website has garnered that honor since May 2011, according to the company’s website.

Last Month, Yahoo and its umbrella of affiliate websites entertained more than 196 million unique visitors. While ComScore incorporates Yahoo’s smaller pages, including Flickr and Yahoo News, it counts the recently-acquired Tumblr as a separate website — currently ranked at No. 28, ahead of Twitter. Yahoo’s unique visitor movement on the matrix this month barely edged out Google’s properties, which had a traffic flow of 192 million visitors.

This achievement may be fleeting for Yahoo, as ComScore’s traffic ratings tend to fluctuate and it remains low on the search engine rankings, but this bit of good news is being viewed as a positive for CEO Marissa Mayer, who is gearing Yahoo up to march forward. Since she took the CEO office in 2012, Yahoo has been on a big acquisition spree — snapping up a host of websites including Tumblr and, most recently, social news company Rockmelt. The company also emerged with a reputation for defending privacy, fighting the feds against PRISM requests and choosing to declassify NSA-related documents later this year. On paper, Mayer’s strategy seems to be paying off for now, but will it pay off in the long term remains to be seen.
