Microsoft inviting users to beta test a new version of Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft has been sending out invitations to people who have previously tested versions of Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) to test a new version of security software. Users can accept the invitation from Microsoft Connect to take part in the new beta program although it’s currently unclear what version of the software users will be testing, it could be MSE 3.

Testers of the previous versions of MSE should look out for an invitation in their email inbox.

Thank you so much for being a part of the Microsoft Security Essentials v2 Beta. You have indicated that you are interested in receiving invites for Connect programs from Microsoft, so we would like to invite you to participate in the Microsoft Security Essentials Public Beta program on Microsoft Connect. This program is for the newest Beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials which has the latest protection features. Be one of the select few who get access to this Beta release by signing up now to reserve your spot!

MSE

It is not yet known what new features the beta will bring as all the email says is that it “has the latest protection features”. Previous versions of MSE have worked on Windows XP, Vista and 7 and it’s very likely that the new version will maintain this compatibility. Windows 8 will feature MSE in built into the operating system, therefore it likely Windows will make use of some, if not all, the new feature that will be found in the new beta.

If you have not been a beta tester for MSE before but want to be involved in this new beta program then you can apply to be included at Microsoft Connect.
