Build starts with a bang

buildHopefully you were able to follow along our liveblog from Build this morning, as an animated Steve Ballmer introduced some 2000 developers in a tent on Microsoft’s campus to Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, and gave away an impressive assortment of hardware in the process.

Attendees are set to receive a 32gb Microsoft Surface RT, a Nokia 920 Windows Phone 8, 100gb of free SkyDrive storage, and a special deal on a developer license for Windows Phone, at $ 8 for a year (for 8 days).  In addition, Microsoft (finally) released the Windows Phone 8 SDK earlier this morning, and announced it during the Windows Phone 8 part of the keynote.

Steve Ballmer didn’t have many numbers to share, but he did say that Microsoft has sold more than 4 million Windows 8 licenses in the 4 days that it has been available, a number that sort of floats in space as it will take quite a bit longer than four days to get an indication of how well Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 will do in the marketplace.

We’ll be attending sessions today, have another keynote liveblog tomorrow, and be stopping by at the Build Blogger Bash this evening, which you can check out in a live webcast, if you want to get glimpses of the likes of Long Zheng, Rafael Rivera, Ryan and Travis Lowdermilk, Alex Wilhelm, Tom Warren, Mary Jo Foley, Paul Thurrott, and yours truly.  Thanks for tuning in this morning, and remember to keep coming back!
