Nokia “Bandit”, a 6-inch phablet with 1080p screen, coming later this year

NokiaBack in April this year, Financial Times reported that Nokia plans to introduce a “phablet” to its Lumia range, likely to be coming by the end of the year. Earlier last month, an alleged image of a display panel of a large-screened Nokia Windows Phone device was leaked to the internet, confirming the existence of such device.

Today, The Verge had confirmed via their sources that the Finnish company is indeed testing a large-screened “phablet” device, codenamed Nokia “Bandit”, with the latest version of the Windows Phone OS. This codename seems to coincide with previous rumors from Chinese website WPDang back in July. Below are some of the specifications of this device according to The Verge:

  • 6-inch display with 1080p resolution
  • Quad-core Snapdragon processor
  • Main camera to be at least 20MP, with a slight hump at the rear of the device to accommodate the camera module (similar to Nokia Lumia 925)
  • Polycarbonate body – thin and lightweight
  • Pre-loaded with Windows Phone 8 GDR3

According to The Verge, the Nokia “Bandit” will be the first of many 1080p Windows Phone devices. According to previous reports, it is expected to be announced during the first week of November, with actual availability on AT&T in the US by the end of the year. The launch timeframe for the rest of the world is currently unclear.
