Even though when Microsoft introduced Windows Phone 8 and its new app model they said that “your (Windows Phone 7.x) app should just continue to work, without any changes”, that wasn’t apparently quite true, as we speculated back in September. One example, Spotify, which was released for Windows Phone 7.x back in November of 2011, never made it to Windows Phone 8. That is, until just now.
This morning in a post on the Windows Phone blog, Microsoft announced that a beta version of Spotify for Windows Phone 8 is available now through the Windows Phone Marketplace. According to the post:
Spotify, which is being released as a beta, instantly increases the size of your music library by millions of tracks, making it easy to discover new songs and artists. You can create your own playlists, or browse and indulge in the ones your friends put together. Going off the grid? The app also lets you download and enjoy your playlists without an Internet connection. Tracks you add to any playlist are simultaneously available on your phone and PC.
The beta offers a free trial for 30 days for new Spotify customers, but then requires the Spotify Premium version, at $ 9.99 per month. The free and “Unlimited ($ 4.99)” versions aren’t supported by this release.
