Windows Phone Support Tool helps support early NoDo updates

In order to help out Windows Phone users that had problems with the early NoDo updates, perhaps even bricking their phones, last week Microsoft released a Windows Phone Support Tool (rev 2.4), which aimed to fix problems that prevent Windows Phone 7s from updating successfully.

Well, it seems that the tool was just what Windows Phone “home brew” specialist Chris Walsh (of ChevronWP7 “fame”) was looking for, and today he’s released a tool that will update Windows Phones to the latest NoDo update, OS version 7.0.7390.0:

All I can say, is thanks to the Windows Phone Support team. You make it too easy.

In a blog post, Walsh promises to release the source code soon, but the updater appears to do just what is says it will do.  That is of course until Microsoft decides to step in.  It’s not clear what will happen to updates through official channels, with supposed OEM fixes and updates, if the premature updater is run, we’ll just have to wait and see.

The updater only supports 6 languages at present (US English, UK English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian), and Walsh warns NOT to try the updater if you’re not set to one of those languages.

For now, if you’re willing to go out on a limb to get the oh-so-overhyped Copy and Paste, you might want to check out Walsh’s blog post.  Proceed, of course, totally at your own risk.

Oh and it looks like we’ll be hearing a lot more about Windows Phone next week at Mix, as Mary Jo Foley noticed in a blog post today.  We’ll be there, of course, hopefully with news about how this whole update process is going to get a lot better, soon.  Maybe they should just put Chris Walsh in charge and be done with it ;).
