Oh Sony. Your IFA press event in Berlin is literally two hours away but Amazon ruined any leftover surprise. On Wednesday morning, an Amazon pre-order page showing the Sony QX10 and QX100 add-on lenses appeared. Amazon is selling the two devices for $ 248 and $ 498 respectively, says Sony Alpha Rumors, which spotted the pre-order page.
Both of these look like a typical DSLR lens but the guts of a full camera are hidden inside according to the product page. They’ll reportedly use NFC and Wi-Fi to wireless pair and connect to a smartphone which uses a Sony app to snap images on iPhones or Android handsets. Amazon says the QX10 uses a back-illuminated 18MP 1/2.3” Exmor R CMOS sensor, while the more expensive QX100 is equipped with a larger a back-illuminated 20MP large 1” Exmor R CMOS sensor.
According to Amazon, these lens accessories will be released on September 27. Maybe Sony will switch up the actual date during its press event today. You know, just to throw us all off a tiny bit.
