Cloud storage and collaboration is finally starting to become mainstream, enabling people to have access to their documents wherever, whenever and on whatever device so long as they have an Internet connection. That’s great, but there’s one problem: Not everyone uses the same cloud storage service to manage all those documents. Which means that a whole lot of people have to manage multiple cloud services all at once.
Fileboard hopes to provide a solution to this with an iPad app that is designed to integrate with multiple services and let users manage files across all of them, making objects more accessible and improving collaboration between workers. The app lets users work with a number of cloud services, including Gmail, Microsoft Exchange, Dropbox, SharePoint and Salesforce. The newest partner to get added to the list is Box, thanks to its Box OneCloud initiative. As a result, the Box app has added some key Fileboard capabilities.
Fileboard targets workers on the road who want to be able to have the most recent version of presentations and other documents without having to send them all back and forth via email. A common management platform is becoming necessary for those workers, particularly as the cloud storage market remains pretty fragmented.
It’s not uncommon, for instance, for one enterprise to have picked Dropbox for its cloud storage, while a partner or client might have picked Box or Sharepoint. Even worse, there are a number of individual users who have picked one or the other willy-nilly, forcing everyone else they work with to get and manage accounts of their own.
With Fileboard, users can not only manage different documents, but they can review and annotate documents, collaborate on them, sign documents and move documents between services. They can also create private and public folders from within the app. And it also provides a layer of security, since the documents aren’t stored locally on the device, but through various cloud services.
Fileboard was founded by Khuram Hussain and Waseem Sadiq, and is based in Mountain View, Calif. The startup was part of last year’s 500 Startups Accelerator class and received seed funding from the program.
