Oh my: Bravo now casting Silicon Valley reality show

First comes the money, then come the cameras: Bravo, the cable television network known for such reality shows as “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and “The Millionaire Matchmaker,” is apparently looking for young professionals to star in an upcoming reality show based on Silicon Valley.

Despite the splashy parties, big funding rounds for pre-launch startups, and increasingly amazing perks to lure engineers for hire, I keep hearing from Silicon Valley veterans that the current environment is still nowhere near the extravagance that typified the dot-com bubble of the late 1990s. Nevertheless, someone seems to think it’ll still make for good TV.

Here’s the email we received from a Hollywood casting director, who will be scouting for Silicon Valley’s hottest potential stars-to-be:

I am a casting director for a new reality docu/series on Bravo currently seeking young professionals. We really would LOVE to talk to you, saw your website. I am flying up there from LA to interview people October 6-8th and was hoping to speak with you before then. Looking forward to speaking with you. Below is a little more info about our show.

Thank you in advance!

Movies like The Social Network have made the tech world seem sexy, but the industry’s real insiders are quick to point out that reality here is not all that telegenic. But that hasn’t stopped other big media firms from turning the spotlight on techies: Bloomberg TV is now running a reality program about TechStars, the Boulder, Colorado-based startup accelerator. It will be interesting to see if the folks who make Silicon Valley tick are really ready for their close-up — or if they’re interested in having one at all.
