Piston Cloud Computing has named Jim Morrisroe as its new CEO, replacing Joshua McKenty in that role. McKenty who co-founded the company will stay on as CTO.
The San Francisco-based company offers an OpenStack-based private cloud. In Morrisroe, Piston (see disclosure) gets an industry veteran with two decades of experience — he was VP and GM of Zimbra, a VMware-owned email company. Previous to that, he was also VP of sales at Storigen and Cemaphore Systems.
Morrisroe posted a letter announcing his news on Monday morning. In a statement, he said:
“Private cloud and OpenStack are systematically transforming all aspects of enterprise information technology and Piston Cloud is the clear leader in the market for commercial OpenStack. OpenStack and private cloud software is emerging as a massive market and is disrupting billions of dollars that is today spent on legacy technologies. Piston Cloud is extremely well positioned to help lead customers through this transformation. I look forward to driving the continued growth and development of the company.”
The OpenStack cloud pool is getting crowded with companies ranging from Rackspace, Nebula, Hewlett-Packard and others all offering their own take on the open-source cloud.
