Twitter buys mobile app builder Cabana

Twitter is bolstering its platform development tools with the purchase of Cabana, a mobile app development platform. Cabana made the announcement today and said it will join Twitter’s efforts to help developers create new experiences on Twitter.

Cabana, which launched last year, said it will be shutting down its service on Dec. 1. We wrote about Cabana back in April when it released Fan Page Mobilizer, which lets any owner of a Facebook fan page reformat and optimize their page into a Web app. But it was also created a simple way to build mobile apps using drag-and-drop actions.

It’s unclear what exactly Cabana will do but it should help Twitter continue to build out its ecosystem in a way that fits its growing business ambitions. The Cabana acquisition is the latest in a buying spree from Twitter, which has bought seven other companies this year including Posterous, Summify and most recently video startup Vine earlier this month.
