For those who have been less than thrilled with the minimal features on Youtube’s apps for mobile, you’re in for a treat: starting tomorrow, Youtube app on Android will have a fresh new look and receive a lot more functionality that brings it closer to the web experience than ever before.
One feature that has sorely been missing from the mobile version of Youtube’s platform is playlists, a popular feature on the website that allows for seamless watching of separate videos in a row. The app now features playlist search and watch capabilities, allowing users to view tons of videos in fullscreen and swipe back and forth to skip videos.
Seamless streaming for smart televisions and connected devices will also have an updated look and feel. While this isn’t too much of a surprise considering Google’s aggressive rollout of Chromecast, users of the app on mobile will be able to preview videos before broadcasting them and queue videos in an on-the-fly playlist.
The overall look and feel of the app also gets a bit of a upgrade, with a new logo and interface. While Android rollout is happening now, it’s likely that iOS will soon follow, as Youtube has confirmed that the features will hit all mobile platforms in the near future.
