Microsoft seems to have made some changes to its Messenger Social feeds lately. A LiveSide reader Matt Krantz tweeted us the following tip indicating that SkyDrive updates, including documents and photos, are no longer showing up on their friend’s Messenger Social feeds, regardless of what settings they have set:
According to the official Windows Live Solution Center forums, a support staff confirmed to users that SkyDrive updates are no longer appearing on Messenger Social feeds:
I’m sorry for the inconvenience that this issue have caused you. Sadly to say, SkyDrive updates that are appearing in Messenger Social is no longer supported due to some privacy reasons.
This news comes a few months after the Windows Live team disabled sharing photos from your SkyDrive’s Mobile Uploads folder. The official response from Omar Shahine at that time was also due to privacy reasons:
The reason for doing so is that too many people were surprised that when they uploaded photos to this folder, that those photos then got published to their Messenger, Facebook friends. At the end of the day, too many people were unhappy and the danger in exposing photos that the user did not explicitly want to share was to high.
Looks like they have taken a step even further now where all uploaded photos, as well as documents, no longer shows up on the Messenger Social feed. However, ever since the discontinuation of Windows Live Spaces, personally I have rarely seen my friends sharing photos using SkyDrive, but rather I have always used the Facebook integration in Messenger Social to keep up to date with my friend’s latest photo uploads. So what do you think of this change?
