Brandon LeBlanc over at Inside Windows Live just posted on the availability of a new beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials, the free anti-malware program. Some new features include:
Windows Firewall integration – During setup, Microsoft Security Essentials will now ask if you would like to turn the Windows Firewall on or off.
Enhanced protection for web-based threats – Microsoft Security Essentials now integrates with Internet Explorer to provide protection against web-based threats.
New protection engine – The updated anti-malware engine offers enhanced detection and cleanup capabilities with better performance.
Network inspection system – Protection against network-based exploits is now built in to Microsoft Security Essentials.
The beta is available on Microsoft Connect, you’ll have to log on with a Windows Live ID to get in.
We’ve been using MSE since it was first released, and although we were a little sad to see Windows Live OneCare go, we have been very impressed with the low-key nature of the new product. It does what it’s supposed to do and stays out of the way the rest of the time, a refreshing change from most other anti-malware products.
