ZTE to unveil new Windows Phone devices at MWC 2012

ZTEWith less than 5 days to go until the annual Mobile World Congress, there had already been reports about potential new Windows Phone to be announced during the event, particularly with major OEMs such as Nokia and LG. Today Chinese OEM ZTE announced that they will be joining the party as well, officially teasing that they will be unveiling new Windows Phone devices during the event, here’s an excerpt from the press release:

ZTE will unveil eight new devices, delivering significant advances in power, high definition multimedia capabilities and design. Based on technology innovations including multi-core chipsets, LTE, 4G radio and the latest Android and Windows Mobile platforms, the new devices form a core component of ZTE’s ambition to become a top three handset provider by 2015.

The devices will be officially unveiled in a press conference at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Monday 27th February at 10:30 CET. The new devices, together with a comprehensive portfolio of ZTE terminals, will be on display at the ZTE booth in Hall 8, stand B145.

ZTE currently manufactures one Windows Phone device – the ZTE Tania, which is aimed at the lower-priced market. While sporting a great design, ZTE Tania is the only device to-date that has less internal storage than the initial minimum requirements of 8GB (ZTE Tania has 4GB). It is widely speculated that the new devices ZTE will be announcing at MWC will run Windows Phone “Tango” – also expected to be announced by Microsoft during the event.
