Anker has released the MindBase, a single appliance that combines an on-device AI home hub, a network-attached storage unit, and a controller for new security cameras. The device carries an AI Core compute card running the company’s TrueSmart AI Agent locally. It connects to nearly 100 Anker products plus any Matter-certified accessories and operates alongside Apple HomeKit. Storage capacity reaches 48 TB, presented as a standard NAS volume for files, photos, and video.
Context
Most Anker smart-home products previously sent data to cloud services or relied on separate hubs for coordination. The MindBase shifts inference onto local hardware, removes the need for a cloud subscription for core AI tasks, and adds large-scale local storage in one box. Anker is also bundling the hub with three new security products in an optional kit: the TrackLight Cam S1, the S4 Video Doorbell, and the Smart Security Shield sensor. The approach keeps video, event logs, and other data on drives the owner controls rather than on third-party servers.

The AI Core card runs the TrueSmart agent without external calls for routine decisions. Camera feeds are analyzed in real time to judge risk level. When an event is flagged, the system can trigger observation modes, adjust lighting, issue spoken warnings through connected devices, or initiate further actions. All of this occurs on the local hardware.
Storage is mounted as ordinary NAS shares, so users can store documents, photo libraries, and camera archives on the same drives. The hub supports both Anker-branded cameras and any Matter-compatible sensors or lights already in the home. Integration with HomeKit allows existing automations to continue without change while the new local AI layer handles additional security logic.
Anker plans to sell the MindBase Security Kit as a single package containing the hub and the three new devices. No recurring cloud fee is required for the on-device functions described in the announcement.
Why it matters
Households that want automation without sending footage to external servers now have a concrete option that combines control logic and bulk storage in one appliance. The 48 TB ceiling addresses a frequent limit of earlier smart-home hubs that offered only modest internal storage or none at all. Because the device speaks Matter and works with HomeKit, owners do not have to abandon existing setups to gain the local AI features.
The practical test will come once units reach reviewers and independent testers measure how well the on-device models handle edge cases such as overlapping events or changing lighting conditions. Until then, the hardware choices directly tackle two recurring complaints about consumer smart-home equipment: data leaving the premises and insufficient room to keep recordings locally. For users already inside the Anker or Matter ecosystem, the MindBase reduces the number of separate boxes required while shifting more processing onto hardware they own.
