Technical Background

A single Discord call can connect participants on phones, laptops, browsers, and game consoles at the same time. Discord engineering lead Mark Smith noted that building an encryption protocol to handle that mix of surfaces simultaneously proved slow and complicated. The final implementation removes the need for any manual configuration.
