LinkedIn Adds Button to Flag Posts That Seem Like AI Slop
*LinkedIn now lets users report content that appears to be AI-generated as part of a wider effort to cut down on low-quality posts.*
LinkedIn introduced a reporting option that marks posts as “Seems like AI slop.” The change gives users a direct way to flag material they believe was produced by artificial intelligence tools.
The feature forms part of a series of updates aimed at lowering the amount of such content on the platform. Chief product officer Hari Srinivasan stated that “AI slop is a top priority for all of us.”
Earlier reporting showed that an AI detector called Pangram found 41 percent of longform LinkedIn posts were entirely generated by AI. The new button arrives after 404 Media documented the prevalence of the material.
Microsoft, which owns LinkedIn, has spent $41 billion on AI in recent periods. One report noted the timing of the button launch against that spending figure.
Reactions
Coverage from Kotaku framed the move with the line “We’re all trying to find the guy who did this.” No other public statements from competing platforms or regulators appear in the source material.
Why it matters
The button shifts some moderation burden onto users while the company continues heavy investment in the same technology. For professionals who use the site to share work and seek opportunities, the change may reduce the volume of formulaic posts but leaves open questions about how reports will be reviewed and acted upon. LinkedIn has not disclosed the volume of reports it expects or the criteria its reviewers will apply.
