Microsoft Extends Paid Windows 10 Support by One Year
*Microsoft will deliver Extended Security Updates for Windows 10 through at least 2027.*
Microsoft has lengthened the Windows 10 Extended Security Updates program by one year. The change appears on the company's support pages without an accompanying announcement.
Windows 10 reached the end of mainstream support in October 2025. After that date, organizations and individuals that require continued security patches must purchase ESU coverage on a per-device basis. The extension means those customers can buy coverage for a third year instead of facing a hard cutoff after the second.
The move affects enterprises that have delayed migration because of legacy applications or hardware limits. It also covers consumers who bought the consumer ESU option. No new technical requirements or pricing details were released alongside the update.
The decision leaves Windows 10 users with a longer runway before they must either pay ongoing fees or move to Windows 11. It does not change the fact that free updates have ended for the older operating system.
