Snap Inc. released Specs, a pair of augmented-reality glasses priced at $2,195. The company frames the product as a leapfrog step that replaces the phone with a wearable computer worn on the face.

The frames use Swiss TR90 polymer, which Snap calls “plastic titanium” for its balance of low weight and strength. Two sizes ship now: a 47 mm frame at 132 grams and a 52 mm frame at 136 grams. Both are intended for all-day wear. Prescription lenses drop in and out so users can share a single pair.

Inside the frames sit two full-color high-resolution cameras, two infrared computer-vision cameras, and 6-axis inertial sensors. Data from those sensors feeds an on-device AI model that Snap says understands context. The glasses can project what the company describes as a 115-inch virtual screen.

Co-founder Evan Spiegel called the device “the computer of the future.” The announcement supplies no release date, carrier plans, or third-party app details beyond the sensor and AI hardware description.

The move places Snap in direct competition with other firms that have tried to sell high-priced AR eyewear to consumers. Earlier attempts from larger hardware makers have struggled with battery life, field of view, and social acceptance. Snap’s pitch rests on lighter weight and swappable lenses rather than new numbers on those older pain points.

Whether the $2,195 price and the limited public specification will persuade developers or early buyers remains open. The product ships without disclosed software store, cloud service terms, or independent benchmarks.
